Import List/Export List
Tap
Import List to import a list or
Export List to export a list. Exported lists may be edited on the desktop and reimported or shared with other users who can then import the lists. Importing and exporting a list requires a WiFi connection. Both your iPhone/iPod Touch and computer must be connected to the same WiFi network. To connect, use either the Bonjour address or IP Address. The Bonjour address may not be available depending on the WiFi router used. Connect by using either a WebDAV client or web browser. From Mac OS X, switch to the Finder and select Connect To Server... (Command-K) under the Go menu. Be sure to enter the address exactly as displayed in the field. On Windows, go to My Network Places and click on Add Network Place. Follow the Wizard to add a new server. Once connected, import list files by copying them to the iPhone or copy exported files to your desktop. Disconnect the server once the files are copied and tap the Done button to finish. Alternatively, open a web browser and connect to the Bonjour or IP Address. Upload or download the list files from the list displayed in the browser.
The list file is a CSV (comma separated value) file. The file may be created in a text editor or a spreadsheet (export as a CSV file). The file must be saved as a
UTF-8 text file. The first line of the file is used to specify the packing list name (required) and description (optional). The following lines describe each item in the list. Each item consists of a name (required), category (optional), description (optional), quantity (optional), value (optional), weight (optional), and type (optional). If a category is not specified, the item is added to the
None category. If the category does not already exist, it is created and added to the list of categories. To match an item in the items list, the imported item must have the same name, category, and description. If an item does not already exist in the items list, the item is created and added to the items list. The item type must be either
"todo" for a to do item or
"packing" for a packing item.
List File Format:
"list name","description",,,,,
"name","cat","desc","quan","value","weight","type"
"name","cat","desc","quan","value","weight","type"
"name","cat","desc","quan","value","weight","type"
The above format is the raw CSV file format (as text). In a spreadsheet, instead of separating values with a comma and using quotes, use a separate column for each set of values (name, category, etc.). Save or export the file as a CSV file (with
UTF-8 formatting).
Trip Export
The
Show Packed Items option specifies whether or not to include the complete or packed items of a trip in the trip list email and app export list.
The
Show Packed Status setting turns the item packed status on or off in trip list emails and app export lists.
The
Export Email field sets the default email address to use when exporting a trip list.
Backup
You can save or restore a backup file for Packing List. The backup file includes all trips, lists, categories, and items. The file is transferred over WiFi (WebDAV/HTTP) similar to importing/exporting (described above). Connect to either the
Bonjour address or
IP Address displayed. To save a backup file, use either a WebDAV client or web browser to copy/download the backup file to your desktop. To restore a backup file, copy/upload the backup file from your desktop. Note that restoring a backup file will replace any existing trips, lists, categories, and items.
